Engagement Photography Belfast | Sir. Thomas & Lady Dixon Park | Shanique + Jack

We recently spent some time with Shanique & Jack for their engagement session at Sir. Thomas & Lady Dixon park in Belfast. Having their engagement session photographed in Belfast wasn’t Shanique and Jack’s first choice, the original plan had been for them to travel to Jamaica and have the session done there, but then the coronavirus pandemic hit and travel became an issue. They will however be returning to Shanique’s home country of Jamaica for their wedding next year.

With Jamaica not being an option at the moment they decided on having the session at Sir. Thomas & Lady Dixon park instead. While we didn’t have the beautiful sandy beaches of Jamaica to work with, the weather wasn’t too dissimilar, with for the most part it being a hot and humid day. The nice weather meant that the park was much busier than we have seen it for quite some time, so much so it was very difficult to even find anywhere available to park our cars.

Lady Dixons is somewhere we visit all the time, we have lost count of how many engagement sessions we have photographed here and it’s also a very popular choice as a location for wedding photography and family portrait sessions. On this visit partly because the park was so busy and partly because it’s an area, we have used much less during our previous visits, we decided to start the session at the meadow near the top entrance to the park. From there, we made our way to the sunken garden and then on to the walled garden.

While the park being so full of people made the session a little more challenging, in terms of finding areas we could use that were not really busy, we were able to get around this some what by using longer focal lengths to isolate Shanique & Jack. Also, a lot of the people we met as we walked around the park, when then realised what we are doing, graciously gave us space to work in as well.

Shanique & Jack took it all in their stride and were really good fun to spend some time with and of course they are both very excited for their wedding next year.
