Katie & Neal got married and had their wedding reception at the Old Court Strangford Lough on the 30th of April. An extra special choice of venue for them both as the venue is owned by Katie’s mum and dad.

We met up with Katie and her bridesmaids on the morning of the wedding at the venue for getting ready. It was probably one of the most chilled out wedding mornings we can remember. As the girls got ready there was plenty of laughs and happy tears along the way.

During the morning we even had time to take a walk around the venue and visit the Old Court Chapel which is on the venue’s grounds. Such a beautiful little chapel, as soon as we seen it for ourselves, we were very excited to photograph the ceremony there.

There is an old saying that, “having rain on your wedding day is good luck and a sign that your marriage will last”. For Katie & Neal’s wedding it didn’t stop raining all day long. While it meant that there were some things that the guys decided they could no longer do like photographs with their horses and alpacas, they still braved the rain for their couple portraits as did the bridal party and their family and friends.

This is a beautiful venue! It is one we haven’t seen mentioned much online, so it is a bit of a hidden gem. The views across Strangford Lough are absolutely stunning. Anyone that decides to choose this venue for their wedding is in for an absolute treat!

The venue has lots of historical significance for Katie and her family and there were elements of that history throughout the wedding day. As a couple of examples, Katie’s Dad wore a spectacular top hat that belonged to his grandfather and Katie & Neal cut their wedding cake with a ceremonial sword that belonged to one of Katie’s ancestors. This was also very much a wedding were everyone mucked in, from Katie’s family and friends working during the day to make sure everything went smoothly, to Katie’s mum and aunty preparing her and the bridesmaids bouquets and the guys buttonholes from freshly picked flowers from their own garden on the morning of the wedding. One of Katie’s bridesmaids even went behind the bar for a bit.

The guys decided against having traditional speeches although Katie’s dad said a few words and a friend recited a very funny poem. They also decided to not have a first dance and instead joined all their family and friends for a cèilidh instead, which everyone loved.
