We met up a while back with Rebecca and Thomas for their engagement session at Crawfordsburn Country Park in Bangor. We had hoped for some soft morning light but on this day the sun was already high when we arrived, so we had bright, strong sunshine to work with for most of the session.

As always, we shot the morning in a documentary style, letting Rebecca and Thomas wander and be themselves rather than lots of heavily posed photos. Rebecca and Thomas were great fun to spend the morning with. They've got an easy, comfortable way about them together and it came through in every photo, they spent most of their engagement session laughing and sharing giggles.

They will be getting married at La Mon Hotel and Country Club next year, which happens to be the same venue we got married in ourselves. We're already looking forward to being back there for their big day.

Crawfordsburn Country Park Engagement Photography

Crawfordsburn Country Park is a large area and it used to be a very popular location for wedding photography. With modern couples preferring to spend less time on portraits it has become less popular in recent years, simply because of the time it takes to explore properly. This has meant that we don't get to work here as often as we used to.

Every time we do though, we're reminded why it's such a good choice, particularly for engagement photography, where you don't have the same time pressures you get on a wedding day. There's no bridal party waiting on you, no dinner to get back for, no schedule ticking away in the background. It's just the two of you, with as much time as you need to relax into the session and enjoy the walk.

The mix of woodland, coastline and open green space means there's always a few different looks to work with in the one location, which gives you excellent variety without ever having to go elsewhere. It's rare to get that much range in one spot, and it's part of why we always come away happy when a couple picks Crawfordsburn for their engagement session.

Engagement Photos at Crawfordsburn Country Park

We started down at the beach for some wider shots before the light became too harsh, before heading up into the woodland paths as the morning went on and the sun got stronger overhead. Rebecca and Thomas were happy to wander and explore a bit rather than just stand and pose, which always makes for more natural photos.

The change of scenery suited the conditions well, swapping the open beach for the dappled cover of the trees gave the session a nice bit of variety as the light got brighter. There was still a lovely calm about the park despite the conditions, and we found plenty of spots away from other visitors to get the shots we wanted.

By the end of the session Rebecca and Thomas had clearly settled into it, the laughing and giggling from earlier on hadn't let up, and it made for a really natural set of photos. We can't wait to see them again at La Mon next year for their wedding.
