North Coast Adventure | Sharon + Dan
A few weeks ago, we had an early morning adventure along the North Coast with Sharon & Dan for their engagement session.
It hasn’t been an easy wedding journey for Sharon & Dan, they have had to reschedule and replan their wedding multiple times because of the pandemic. While a lot of couples have found themselves in that position, it has been more difficult for these guys as Dan is currently living in New York and Sharon’s job means that she spends her working life for months at a time out in the middle of the ocean. Of course travel restrictions during the pandemic have also made even getting to see each other much more difficult as well. So, with Dan having been able to get to Northern Ireland for the Christmas period it was the perfect time to visit some of ours and their favourite places for their engagement session.
Ballintoy Harbour Engagement photos
We started the morning of by meeting up at Ballintoy Harbour. We love this place! If you read our blog regularly you will know this already. Between visiting Ballintoy for work and visiting just for pleasure we are there at least 15-20 times a year, so it’s fair to say we know it quite well. It was a cold morning, when is it not down here? Especially at this time of the year. One thing that did surprise us though was that there was hardly and wind and the sea was quite calm, we are so used to visiting here when the wind is howling and the waves are smashing themselves off the rocks, it was almost odd to see it so calm.
Dunseverick Castle Engagement Session
Once we had finished up at Ballintoy Harbour, we headed over to Dunseverick Castle. This is another one of our favourite places on the North Coast. One of our couples last year also chose Dunseverick Castle for portraits after their Dunluce Castle Elopement which was the first time we had worked here. As the morning went on, we got to know Sharon & Dan so much better and discovered their love of travel. We have to admit that we are a bit envious of all the amazing places they have visited. We also got a lot more info on their wedding plans and are very excited to photograph their wedding.
Engagement photographs at The Dark Hedges
We hadn’t originally planned on stopping off at The Dark Hedges but with it being on our way back anyway we thought it would be rude not too. We were having such a good time with Sharon & Dan, we were also reluctant to finish up for the day as well. The Dark Hedges is somewhere that is often not a usable location for photographs these days due to the number of tourists that visit. We thought that with it being the end of December, so close to Christmas and a Monday morning as well it would be fairly quiet and when we arrived it was. We only had a couple of minutes however before a coach dropped of some tourists. While its still a beautiful place so many of the trees are gone now that it really has lost the atmosphere it used to have. We first visited here about 15-16 years ago, back before most people became aware of it through Game of Thrones and the difference between now and then is like the difference between night and day. It’s unfortunate that it hasn’t received the upkeep such an iconic place deserved.
