Dunluce Castle Elopement | Reidun + Stephen

Reidun & Stephen eloped at Dunluce Castle in Bushmills on the 1st of July. After the ceremony we made our way to a couple of our favourite places in the world, Dunseverick Castle and Ballintoy Harbour.

We are not quite sure just how Reidun & Stephen managed to pull off such an amazing elopement while living in Kuwait and having had to cancel their original wedding hotel wedding plans because of the pandemic. We do know that they were lucky to find great wedding vendors who made sure that everything was perfect on the day. It was mentioned during the ceremony that at work they live by the motto “teamwork, makes the dream work”, so no doubt that played a big part too.

On our way to Dunluce Castle, we noticed a think fog starting to roll in and by the time we arrived everywhere was thickly coated in it. The field beside Dunluce Castle is a very popular choice for elopements in Northern Ireland and has couples travelling from all over the world to elope here. Sean the very friendly farmer that owns the field, mentioned that the guys were a little unlucky to get hit with the fog as when it usually comes in it is long gone before lunch time, we agreed but secretly we were absolutely delighted, it was so breathtakingly beautiful!.

We were really pleased when we found out that John Foley was to be Reidun & Stephen’s Humanist celebrant. We photographed another wedding recently were John performed the ceremony, so we knew how amazing it was going to be. John like ourselves has been part of Reidun & Stephen’s wedding journey right from when they were planning their original hotel wedding.

The ceremony was so intimate and as the piper played and the fog rolled in the atmosphere was electric. We are sure that even Reidun & Stephen’s family and friends some of whom were watching all the way from America via the live stream will have felt it too. Reidun & Stephen actually did “tie the knot”, by reviving an old wedding tradition and including a handfasting ceremony, which was so lovely to see.

We love the North Coast and spend as much of our free time here as possible. We have our own little route that we travel when we visit so we were so excited that Reidun & Stephen decided to go to our two favourite places after the ceremony and two places we always stop at. Our first stop was Dunseverick Castle, this is somewhere that has become extremely popular for wedding and engagement photography, it is a spectacular place. There is one particular spot here that every Northern Ireland wedding photographer uses so we were really keen to work the scene and avoid that, as we didn’t want our photographs to look the same as everyone else’s. We are so glad we didn’t opt for the easy option as we absolutely love the images we captured here. Next up was Ballintoy Harbour, we have been visiting here for many years long before it became so popular with tourists because of its connection to Game of Thrones. Ballintoy Harbour is our heaven, we have so many happy memories from visiting here and now Reidun & Stephen do too.
