Erin + Jake’s Romantic Elopement at Dunluce Castle

On September 8th, Erin and Jake traveled all the way from Atlanta, Georgia in the U.S.A. to say their weding vows at the dramatic ruins of Dunluce Castle.

Their intimate elopement was set against the rugged Causeway Coast of Northern Ireland, surrounded by family, friends, and some of the most stunning scenery in the world.

With trust placed in us as their elopement photographer for advice on planning, from ceremony spots to nearby stays, every detail came together beautifully. The day reflected a mix of Irish tradition, relaxed moments, and breathtaking coastal views.

Why Couples Choose Dunluce Castle for Their Elopement

The elopement field at Dunluce Castle is one of the most romantic places in Northern Ireland. Perched on a cliff overlooking the Atlantic, facing the castle, it offers an atmosphere steeped in history and raw beauty.

For couples seeking an elopement with both intimacy and drama, the location ticks every box. Its open views, rugged coastline, and historic ruins create a natural backdrop that needs little decoration.

The castle sits close to other iconic spots along the Causeway Coast, meaning couples can enjoy multiple locations for photographs within one day. From cliffs to harbours, every corner feels cinematic.

The weather adds its own charm, windswept hair, glowing skies, and shifting light become part of the story. Rather than resisting nature, most couples embrace it.

Choosing to elope at Dunluce Castle means celebrating love in a place that feels timeless, authentic, and unforgettable.

The day began in Ballycastle, a small coastal town best known for its views of Rathlin Island and the Mull of Kintyre. Erin and Jake chose an absolutely stunning AirBnB as their base, where they were joined by a small group of family and friends to get ready for their wedding.

The morning was calm and unhurried. Laughter and excitement filled the house as everyone prepared for the ceremony. Although they got ready from the same house Erin and Jake made sure that they never seen each other all day, until Erin walked down the aisle. It felt much less like a formal wedding morning and more like a gathering among loved ones. This relaxed start set the tone for the day. By keeping the group small and the schedule simple, Erin and Jake created space to enjoy every moment without stress. Erin also did an emotional first look with her Dad.

Arriving at Dunluce Castle, the everyone was brought to the elopement field by a tractor driven by Sean, who owns the elopement field and always ensures couples have a shot of Whiskey to calm any nerves before the ceremony and another shot after to celebrate.

The ceremony itself was deeply personal. Jake’s father was the celebrant, adding a heartfelt personal dimension to the experience. The couple also included a handfasting ceremony, an ancient Celtic tradition symbolising unity and commitment.

Though the wind swept across the cliffs, the atmosphere was calm, intimate, and full of meaning. It was the kind of ceremony that could only have belonged to them with lots of smiles, laughs and happy tears.

Capturing Special Moments Along the
Causeway Coast

Dunseverick Castle Stop

After the vows, the newlyweds continued their adventure. Our first stop was Dunseverick Castle, a historic ruin perched along the coast.

Here, we spent a short time taking portraits, capturing the rugged scenery without lingering too long. The focus was on making the most of the fading light.

This stop added contrast to the day, offering a quieter backdrop compared to the dramatic cliffs at Dunluce.

Golden Light at Ballintoy Harbour

The final stop was Ballintoy Harbour, a location loved by many for its cinematic charm.

As the sun lowered, the light turned golden casting a warm glow across the rocks and sea. It was the perfect setting for their last portraits.

Ballintoy Harbour holds a special place for many elopement photographers and it is our favourite place in the world. Sharing it with couples who might never otherwise visit makes it even more meaningful. For Erin and Jake, we have no doubt that they will never forget the magical time we had here.
