Orange Tree House Wedding | Rebecca + Jonnie

On the 26th of October we photographed Rebecca & Jonnie’s wedding at Orange Tree House in Greyabbey. Both the wedding ceremony and reception took place at the venue.

Getting ready for this one was a little different than normal as Rebecca and the girls started the morning with having their hairs done at home in Antrim. Once the hairstylist was finished everyone made their way over to Orange Tree House where the girls did their own make-up, got dressed and got ready for the ceremony.

These guys wanted to have as chilled out and relaxed a day as possible. Instead of having a large group of groomsmen Jonnie opted to just have his dad as his best man. They arrived at the venue a little later on in the day but were plenty early which meant they had time to grab a couple of dinks in the bar before the ceremony.

The girls got ready in the “secret room” at Orange Tree House and were ready in plenty of time and with no travelling needed, Rebecca walked down the aisle exactly on time. The ceremony itself was quite traditional, although the guys did break from normal wedding traditions to cut their cake before they walked back down the aisle.

It was a bitterly cold day with high winds and high sun, so not the best conditions for wedding photography, but at least we avoided the rain. Having photographed weddings at Orange Tree House at this time of the year previously we had suggested on the lead up to the wedding to the guys, that from a photography point of view it would be better to use another location for photographs. For Rebecca and Jonnie though it was important to have as hassle free a day as possible and they wanted to stay close to their family and friends, so they opted to stay at the venue.

This meant we had to battle with the high winds in particular during the time that we spent with them. Not every bride and groom are happy to stand outside in the cold while the wind pulls them all over the place for photographs, but Rebecca and Jonnie took it all in their stride and went with it. For us this was great, as we love adventurous couples. While the wind caused some havoc, especially with Rebecca’s dress and hair, it made for some epic natural portraits of the guys. Rebecca and Jonnie were even able to convince their family and friends into venturing outside for some photos once we had finished up as well.

Back inside the venue the guys got to spend some quality time with their guests before the speeches. During the best man’s speech Jonnie’s dad struggled to hold back his emotions as he talked about how proud he was to be his best man. We loved that Jonnie chose his dad to be his best man on the day, who better to stand by your side on one of the most important days of your life. Jonnie shared the funny story behind how he and Rebecca first met during his speech.
