Photographers who know Killeavy Castle inside out

Killeavy Castle Estate is one of the most photogenic wedding venues in Ireland and one of our favourite places to spend a wedding day. A 19th century castle, an 18th century walled garden, woodland walks and the slopes of Slieve Gullion behind it all give us a different feel in every corner of the estate.

We have photographed weddings here, so we know where the light falls in the Walled Garden and when to bring you there. We know how the castle steps look with the hills behind them, what the tunnel archway between the castle and the pavilion gives us on a grey day, and where the woodland gives you a quiet moment to yourselves.

The result is a wedding gallery that makes full use of everything Killeavy has to offer, without you having to think about any of it. Still choosing your venue? Our Killeavy Castle wedding venue guide covers the good, the not so good and our favourite photo spots. We also photograph weddings across the Newry area.

Relaxed, natural photography, planned around the light.

Photography at Killeavy Castle Estate

Every corner of Killeavy Castle, captured

Killeavy gives us a lot of variety in a single venue, from formal gardens to castle stonework to quiet woodland. Here are the locations we use on your wedding day and why each one matters.

Location 01

The Walled Garden

The historic walled garden dates back to the 18th century and is one of the finest photography settings at any wedding venue in Ireland. Pebbled walkways, old walls and natural framing give us a classic backdrop for your ceremony, your portraits and the moments in between. It is where we always set aside dedicated time with the two of you.

Location 02

The Castle and Entrance Steps

The 19th century castle is one of the most striking architectural backdrops in Northern Ireland. The entrance steps, with the Mourne Mountains behind them, are a favourite spot for group photos and for portraits of the two of you, and the stonework gives every image a timeless quality in any weather.

Location 03

The Tunnel Archway

One of Killeavy's most unusual photography spots is the tunnel archway that connects the castle to the pavilion. Light floods in from three points, so it works beautifully even on the greyest day. It is also somewhere we can take you for a quiet moment together while your guests enjoy the drinks reception.

Location 04

The Woodland and Estate Grounds

The woodland walks that wind through the wider estate offer a completely different mood to the formal garden and castle areas. Dappled light in summer, warm tones in autumn and long views towards Slieve Gullion and the Ring of Gullion as the evening light fades. For couples who want portraits that feel natural and a little adventurous, this is the place.

Real weddings at Killeavy Castle Estate

See our work at Killeavy Castle

Every wedding at Killeavy is different. Some couples marry outdoors in the Walled Garden, others choose an indoor ceremony, and the Northern Irish weather has a say in all of them. These are two days we photographed here, so you can see how we work.

Each one is a full day, with the getting ready, the ceremony, the portraits around the estate and the party in the evening, all edited in the same natural, true to life style. Click any photo to see the whole day.

Every season

Woodland colour in autumn, long summer evenings in the gardens and soft light in the quieter months. We have worked at Killeavy in every season, so we know how the estate changes and where it looks its best.

Every kind of ceremony

Outdoors in the Walled Garden or indoors if the weather turns. We plan your photography around the space you choose and the way you want the day to feel.

Every kind of weather

Killeavy works in the rain too. The castle, the tunnel archway and the pavilion give us plenty of options, and some of our favourite images come from grey days.

Frequently asked questions

Your Killeavy Castle questions answered

The things couples ask us most about photography at Killeavy Castle Estate. If yours is not here, send us a message or have a look at our wedding FAQ.

Do you know the best spots for photos at Killeavy Castle Estate?

Yes. We know the Walled Garden, the castle and its entrance steps, the tunnel archway that connects the castle to the pavilion, and the woodland walks across the wider estate. We plan which spots to use around your timings and the light, so you do not have to think about it on the day. Our Killeavy Castle venue guide shows some of our favourites.

Can we have an outdoor ceremony at Killeavy Castle?

The Walled Garden offers an outdoor ceremony on the lawn, and we photograph indoor and outdoor ceremonies alike. Ceremony options and numbers are set by the venue, so check them with the Killeavy wedding team, and we will talk through the layout and the light with you beforehand.

What happens if it rains on our wedding day at Killeavy?

We agree a wet weather plan with you beforehand so nothing is a surprise on the day. The castle, the tunnel archway and the pavilion give us plenty of character to work with, and some of our favourite images come from grey days with umbrellas and moody skies over the estate.

When is the best time of year for a wedding at Killeavy Castle?

Every season has something to offer. Spring and summer give you long evenings of soft light, autumn colour in the woodland suits the estate beautifully, and winter weddings bring cosy interiors and an early golden hour. We plan your timings around the light for whichever date you choose.

How far in advance should we book?

As early as you can. We only take on a limited number of weddings each year, and Killeavy hosts one castle wedding a day, so popular dates go quickly. If you have your date, send us a message and we will check it straight away.

Will there be two photographers at our Killeavy wedding?

Yes. Tommy and Laurene photograph every wedding together as a husband and wife team. One of us can be with the bride and the other with the groom in the morning, and during the day we capture the moments you would otherwise miss.

Have you photographed weddings at Killeavy Castle before?

Yes. You can see some of them above, including Danielle and Ian and Diana and Marian, and our venue guide has more about how a wedding day works here, including a timeline.

Do you photograph weddings in Newry and the surrounding area?

Yes. We are based in Lisburn and travel across Northern Ireland, and we photograph plenty of weddings around Newry. You can read more on our Newry wedding photographer page.
