About the venue

A four star resort in the Roe Valley

Roe Valley Resort, which many couples still know as Roe Park Resort, is a four star golf and spa resort in Limavady, with its own 18 hole golf course and the Binevenagh hills as a backdrop. It is part of the Galgorm Collection, and the venue has been changing and improving, including a new glass Garden Pavilion for ceremonies in the walled garden.

We have photographed weddings here and know the grounds, the rooms and how the day flows. This guide covers the good, the not so good and the best places for photos, from what we have seen on real days.

One wedding a day, so the resort is yours for the day.

The advantages and disadvantages of Roe Valley Resort

Every venue has good points and things to plan around. This is what we have noticed from photographing weddings here.

Advantages

  • Only one wedding takes place each day, so you and your guests are not sharing the resort with another wedding party.
  • The new Garden Pavilion is a glass ceremony space in the walled garden, with views of the Binevenagh hills and gardens all around it. The resort also offers ceremonies in its landscaped gardens or in indoor spaces, and it holds a civil ceremony licence.
  • There is a range of reception spaces, from smaller suites to large rooms, so the resort works for intimate weddings as well as big celebrations.
  • You can stay on site, with 118 guest rooms and some offered at a wedding rate. Lots of our couples stay the night before and get ready at the resort on the morning.
  • The food here is always great, and the resort looks after your dinner, drinks and evening from one team.
  • Roe Valley Country Park is only about five minutes away by car, and after dinner the golf course opens up for sunset portraits.

Disadvantages

  • The golf course takes up most of the grounds, and the nicest areas are out of bounds for photos while golf is being played. During the day we use the areas around the resort for your bridal party, family and friends.
  • It is a large resort, so other guests and hotel residents are around and can mix with the wedding party. For some couples it feels less private than a country estate.
  • The indoor ceremony rooms we have photographed in had no natural light, so a light and airy feel can take extra effort. The new glass Garden Pavilion looks like a brighter alternative, so ask the venue for a viewing.
  • The resort recommends booking 18 to 24 months ahead, so the popular dates can go early.
  • The resort is being redeveloped under the Galgorm Collection, so ask the venue about any building work or changes around your date.

Roe Valley Resort wedding photography

We have photographed weddings at Roe Valley Resort, when it was still known as Roe Park Resort, and we know the grounds and how the day flows. It is a big resort with a lot going on, so a little planning goes a long way.

We plan around the light, the weather, the golfers and your timings, and choose the spots that suit your day best, so your gallery tells the whole story from getting ready to the evening.

Photo locations

Places to explore

The best photo spots at Roe Valley Resort change through the day because of the golf course, so the timing of your portraits matters more here than at most venues.

This is how we usually plan it, and we are always happy to talk it through with you before the day.

The walled garden

The new Garden Pavilion sits in the walled garden, so your ceremony and your first photos can happen in the same place. The garden has a bridge over a pond, a fountain framed by flowers and tree lined paths with flower borders.

Around the resort

During the day, the golf course takes up much of the grounds, so we use the areas around the resort for photos with your bridal party, family and friends. It keeps things easy for your guests too.

The golf course after dinner

Once the golfers head home, more of the course opens up. We always suggest setting aside around 15 minutes after dinner so we can explore these areas together in the evening light.

Roe Valley Country Park

The resort sits inside Roe Valley Country Park, and a short five minute drive takes you to a beautiful spot that we always suggest as the best place for your bride and groom portraits.

Golden hour moves a lot through the year in Northern Ireland, so we plan your evening light photos around your date. The golf course affects when we can use the best areas, so it is worth talking through the timings with us before the day.

Questions

Roe Valley Resort wedding FAQ

The questions couples ask us most about getting married here. If yours is not covered, send us a message.

Is Roe Valley Resort the same as Roe Park Resort?

Yes. Roe Valley Resort is the new name for Roe Park Resort in Limavady. The resort is now part of the Galgorm Collection and has been changing and improving, including a new Garden Pavilion for ceremonies. Our earlier weddings here were photographed when it was still called Roe Park Resort.

How many guests can Roe Valley Resort hold?

According to the resort, it can host up to 300 guests for a sit down dinner and reception. The Roe Valley Suite and the Roe Valley Lounge hold up to 300, the Thackeray Suite holds up to 120 and the Ross Suite holds up to 110, and the two smaller suites can be joined together. For ceremony numbers, including the Garden Pavilion, ask the venue to confirm for your date.

Where is the ceremony at Roe Valley Resort?

You can marry in the new Garden Pavilion, a glass ceremony space in the walled garden with views of the Binevenagh hills, in the landscaped gardens, or in one of the resort's indoor spaces. The resort holds a civil ceremony licence, so ask the venue which setting suits your plans and your date.

Is there more than one wedding a day?

According to the resort, there is a one wedding a day policy, so Roe Valley Resort is exclusively yours for the day. That makes photography easier, because we do not need to work around another wedding party.

Can we stay at Roe Valley Resort?

Yes. The resort has 118 guest rooms, including suites and family rooms, and some are offered at a discounted wedding rate. Lots of our couples stay the night before and get ready at the resort in the morning.

What happens if it rains?

The glass Garden Pavilion and the indoor spaces keep your ceremony and celebrations going whatever the weather. For portraits, we agree a wet weather plan with you beforehand, and a grey day often gives us soft, moody photos under umbrellas and around the resort.

Where are the best spots for photos at Roe Valley Resort?

The walled garden around the new Garden Pavilion has a bridge over a pond and a fountain framed by flowers. During the day, most of the golf course is out of bounds while golf is being played, so we use the areas around the resort for photos with your bridal party, family and friends. After dinner more of the course opens up, and Roe Valley Country Park is a five minute drive away for portraits.

How far ahead should we book Roe Valley Resort?

The resort recommends booking at least 18 to 24 months in advance, although shorter notice can sometimes be arranged. It is a good idea to check your photographer is free for your date as soon as your venue is confirmed.

Have you photographed weddings at Roe Valley Resort before?

Yes. You can read about Catherine and Niall and Charlotte and Steven above to see how their days looked.

How much does a Roe Valley Resort wedding photographer cost?
