About the venue

A Georgian house with a walled garden

Tullyveery House is a Georgian country house near Killyleagh in County Down, with a walled garden, a courtyard and open grounds that run out towards the water. The venue hosts one wedding a day, so the house and gardens are yours for the day, and you choose your own suppliers.

We have photographed weddings here, and you can see two full days on our blog from Louise and Lee and Emily and Tom, so this guide comes from real days, not a brochure. If you are looking for a photographer for your own day here, see our Tullyveery House wedding photographer page, or our wedding photographer in Downpatrick page, and have a look at our blog on the best wedding venues in Northern Ireland.

The honest view

The good and the not so good

Here is our view of Tullyveery House, from the weddings we have photographed there.

Advantages

  • One wedding a day, so you have the house and gardens to yourselves
  • Several ceremony spaces, including the walled garden, which is beautiful for an outdoor ceremony
  • You choose your own suppliers, from the caterer to the photographer
  • Listed access to the venue the day before and the day after your wedding
  • Lots of variety for photographs, from the courtyard and the walled garden to open grounds with a view over the water
  • A friendly team, and a coordinator listed to help you plan

Disadvantages

  • Much of the day is outdoors, so ask the venue about its wet weather plan before you book
  • There is limited shade, and on a very hot day guests felt it, as we saw at Louise and Lee's wedding
  • It is about half an hour from Belfast, so plan guest travel and taxis
  • Choosing your own suppliers gives you freedom, and it also means more to organise

Wedding photography

Photographing weddings at Tullyveery House

The house gives us a lot to work with, from getting ready in the bedrooms and the staircase to the ceremony in the walled garden. With one wedding a day we are never working around another party, so the day can unfold at its own pace.

If you are looking for a photographer for your own day here, see our Tullyveery House wedding photographer page, or our wedding photographer in Downpatrick page, and read our blog on the best wedding venues in Northern Ireland.

Around the house

The house and gardens

The front lawn is made for the first portraits and the wedding party, and the staircase and bright rooms inside give you lovely soft light if the weather is against you. The courtyard works well for drinks and for relaxed, candid photographs while your guests enjoy themselves.

If you hope for an outdoor ceremony, ask the venue about its wet weather plan, and about shade if your date falls in the height of summer.

Portraits

Out in the grounds

Beyond the gardens, the grounds open out into long grass and a field with a view over the water. It is one of our favourite places for couple portraits here, with wide open space and soft evening light.

Which spot works best depends on the weather, your timings and the light, and we help you choose on the day. For more ideas, read our blog on the best wedding venues in Northern Ireland.

Questions

Tullyveery House weddings FAQ

Can't see your question? Send us a message on our contact page and we will help.

Where is Tullyveery House?

Tullyveery House is at 7 Ardigon Road, Killyleagh, near Downpatrick in County Down, BT30 9TA. Our wedding photographer in Downpatrick page has more on how we work in the area.

Can we have our ceremony at the venue?

Yes. The venue has several ceremony spaces, indoors and outdoors, including the walled garden. Ask which spaces suit your numbers and the type of ceremony you have in mind.

Can we have an outdoor ceremony?

Many couples choose the walled garden, and it is one of the prettiest settings we photograph. Because so much of the day is outdoors, ask the venue about its wet weather plan, and about shade if you are marrying in midsummer.

Can we choose our own suppliers?

Yes. You can bring your own suppliers, including your photographer. That gives you freedom, and it also means more to organise, so it helps to start early.

Can we stay at the venue?

Ask the venue what accommodation is available and what is included with your booking. For Emily and Tom, the bridal party stayed over the night before.

Where can we take couple portraits?

Around the house, the courtyard, the walled garden and the grounds. The field with the view over the water is a favourite of ours. You can see whole days on our blog from Louise and Lee and Emily and Tom. If you would like us at yours, see our Tullyveery House wedding photographer page.

How long should we book a photographer for?

We offer half day and full day coverage. Full day coverage lets us photograph everything from the preparations to the first dance, and half day coverage suits a shorter day. You can see the details on our pricing page.

Have you photographed weddings at Tullyveery House?

Yes. You can see real days on our blog, including Louise and Lee and Emily and Tom. If you would like us at yours, see our Tullyveery House wedding photographer page.

Where can I see more venues?
