Orange Tree House Wedding: Fiona and Emmet's Unforgettable Celebration
We have photographed a lot of weddings at Orange Tree House in Greyabbey over the last few years and it’s always somewhere we look forward to spending the day at. On the 6th of April, we photographed Fiona & Emmet’s wedding at Orange Tree House. Both the wedding ceremony and the reception took place at the venue.
Both Fiona and Emmet live in London at the moment so organised there wedding from there. Organising you’re wedding while living elsewhere can have its challenges but they pulled off a great wedding day. These guys have been together since they were 18 and have been planning and looking forward to this day for some time. For everyone there on the day it was easy to see just how head over heels these two are for each other,
On the morning of the wedding, we met up with Fiona and the rest of the girls at her parent’s home in Belfast. The girls were all ready bang on time and there were a few familiar faces as we have worked with both the hair stylist and make-up artist many times before. Fiona’s dad is a keen photographer and did a great job of grabbing a few snaps will not interfering with anything we were doing.

We met up with Emmet and the guys at the venue, they were all in great form as you would expect. Orange Tree House is quite unique in a way with the perfect mixture of old and new. The main building is a 200-year-old converted church and still has a few of the original features, while the front end of the venue is more modern and everyone loves the secret room!
Fiona & Emmet opted for a humanist wedding ceremony which as photographers we love because we get to learn so much about our couples as they usually explain how they met and what brought them together. As part of the ceremony their wedding rings were passed around their guests to be blessed and they tied the knot with a handfasting ceremony. They also decided on an unplugged wedding ceremony and it was great to see that so many of their guests honoured their wishes and kept their mobile phones etc. in their pockets and enjoyed the moment. Their family and friends welcomed them back down the aisle by blowing bubbles!

As many couples do when getting married at Orange Tree House, after the ceremony we headed of to the ruins at Greyabbey for photos. The sun was very high in the sky and when that happens as photographers, we are left with 2 options either use flash to overpower the sun or seek the shade. As we were on a very tight timeline with little time to spare, we opted for finding the shade.
Fiona and Emmet were great craic and happy to do anything we asked of them, so even in a short period of time we were still able to capture some lovely portraits of them together. We knew were going to get some more time with them later in the evening at the venue as well so having less time at the abbey wasn’t an issue.

On arriving back at Orange Tree House, we grabbed a few photos with the bridal party and Fiona and Emmet’s family before heading inside for the speeches. All of the speeches were very emotional, we had a few tears in our eyes ourselves before they finished.
After dinner the guys had plenty of time to chill out and relax with their family and friends and enjoy the sunny day. The guys had decided on an earlier than usual first dance so we opted on leaving shooting some more stuff with them until after that, when the sun had dropped down enough to make heading back out again worthwhile.
Pretty much every time we have worked at Orange Tree House we have been lucky to see some beautiful sunsets and that proved to be the case here again. We picked the perfect time to head back outside with the guys to shoot some epic sunset portraits before leaving for home.
