It is also key to look for consistency this is something a lot of less skilled wedding photographers struggle with. Venue Recommended Wedding Photographers

There are usually three different ways in which a wedding photographer can become a recommended photographer at a venue.

At some wedding venues they only recommend photographers that pay them to do so, or only recommend photographers that are doing something for them. For example, paying to attend one of their wedding fairs, open days or venue show around days as they are sometimes called. Sometimes it is because they have come to an agreement with the photographer in exchange for them creating content free of charge for them to advertise their venue. This is something we have personally never been comfortable with, although lots of wedding venues in Northern Ireland do this. We are not on the recommended list for any venue that has asked us for payment or for something else in return.

Sometimes photographers are on the recommended list at a venue because they have a prior relationship with the wedding co-ordinator or a member of staff that works in the wedding event team or the venue owner etc. While it might seem like their are thousands of photographers and there are, the wedding industry in Northern Ireland is actually quite small and experienced vendors all know each other. Lots of wedding photographers have members of their family or close friends that work in some capacity at a wedding venue. We don’t, so you won’t find us on the recommended list at a venue for this reason.

We are, however, listed on the recommended vendor list at several wedding venues. The reason these venues suggest us to the brides and grooms getting married there is because they appreciate not only the quality of our work but also how we professionally and warmly interact with the couples, their guests, the venue staff, and other wedding vendors. We have always believed that this genuine, personal endorsement from venues who know us well is the most valuable and meaningful type of recommendation. None of the venues we are recommended at have ever asked us for anything in return.

That is not to say that if you choose a wedding photographer who has paid, done favours or is a family member of someone who works at your wedding venue, that you will receive a poor experience, but it is important to do your research. Being on the recommended list at a venue, will for sure mean that they will have likely worked there a lot but doesn’t necessarily mean that they will be the best individual choice for you.
