Why We Love Wedding Photography
Some photographers see weddings as a routine job. We never have. Each celebration feels new, alive, and full of possibility. That excitement keeps our photography honest and heartfelt. We love the atmosphere, the people, the laughter, and even the chaos that comes with a wedding day. It’s a privilege to be trusted with those once-in-a-lifetime moments, and we treat that responsibility with care and enthusiasm.
Our enjoyment shows in the results. Because when photographers genuinely love their work, it changes everything, the energy, the connection, the emotion in every frame. Couples often tell us our calm but happy presence helped them relax, and that’s the foundation for great photography.
Wedding photography is the bridge between a single day and a lifetime of memories. For couples, it’s not just about images, it’s about capturing every emotion, every glance, every laugh and tear. We believe your wedding deserves to be more than a series of posed photos.
Our aim is to document the real story of your day, the joy, the nerves, the celebration. When you look back in years to come, you should feel the same excitement you felt that morning. That’s why we love what we do. Because we don’t just photograph weddings, we capture life, love, and moments that matter.
We recognise that each couple has a unique story. Our role is to reflect that story back to you in images you’ll treasure. With our experience across Northern Ireland, we’ve seen how surroundings, light and people all come together to shape a day. We love to turn that day into something you’ll revisit again and again, with huge smile on your faces.
Why We Chose Wedding Photography
We didn’t really choose wedding photography, it kind of chose us. Photography has always been something that we enjoyed doing together, long before it was something we ever dreamed could become a job. We spent many a day traveling all over Northern Ireland at ridiculous hours of the morning to capture the sun coming up. We visited all of the places that photographers loved to shoot at like The Dark Hedges long before it became famous because of Game of Thrones.
When our kids came along, we dragged them to pretty much every scenic spot in the country so we could photograph them. That is when we first learned that we loved photographing people. Having kids also meant lots of trips to the zoo, which we off course loved as much for the photo opportunities as the day out. These little guys were always our favourites.
Before shooting weddings became our thing, we tried lots of other types of photography work. This included studio portraits, fashion and commercial photography. Studio portraits and fashion allowed us to learn and hone our skills using light and working with people form all sorts of backgrounds. Commercial photography helped us learn to work to tight timelines and deadlines. None of them ever really seemed to be the perfect fit for us though. In all honesty it was very receptive and because of that, kind of killed the joy we had from photography a bit.
Then by chance Tommy was asked to help out a wedding photographer and quickly decided that he didn’t want to do anything else. He loved that no two weddings were the same and the interaction with all of the people and beautiful places he got to visit. At his first wedding by himself, Laurene came along just to assist with lighting etc. but didn’t even make it to the start of the ceremony before grabbing a camera and joining in. We realised straight away that everything just worked better when we did it as a team. Things just escalated naturally from there. You could say that we accidentally fell into wedding photography.
The Beauty of Natural Storytelling
How We Capture Real Moments
On your wedding day, the best photographs often happen when you’re not thinking about the camera. For the majority of every wedding day we observe rather than direct. We watch for those unguarded moments, a child’s wide-eyed grin, a whisper shared between partners, an aunt wiping a tear. These are the sort of photographs we absolutely love!
Our style leans to documentary first with real emotion over forced poses. Because when you look back, you’ll remember how it felt, not just how it looked. We emphasise natural light, genuine gestures, candid interactions. Each image should feel as though it could only belong to your day.
We then weave together the small moments and the big ones to form a complete narrative of your wedding. That story is yours. And we love telling it.
Why Two Photographers Make a Difference
Choosing two photographers means better coverage and richer storytelling. Being a husband & wife team we operate together seamlessly. One of us can focus on the bride and groom, the other on your guests capturing reactions, details, and side-stories. During the ceremony one of us can be at the front while the other is at the back. This means more images, more angles, and fewer missed moments. We feel that being so in sync with each other and how we work gives us a real advantage over photographers, who just bring in a second photographer when needed, as this is often someone they don’t know well or haven’t worked with before.
The result is a carefully curated collection of photos that feel truly complete, capturing everything from the big, memorable moments to the subtle, meaningful glances. That’s why having two photographers present is more than just a luxury, it’s a thoughtful and strategic approach to fully preserving every aspect of your special day.
The Technical Challenge of
Wedding Photography
Wedding photography is nothing like other types of photography. To be a skilled wedding photographer you need to have mastered nearly all photographic skills and be able to execute each consistently. It tests everything you know about your equipment, composition, lighting, and will always throw something unexpected into the mix. That is a challenge we love!
Unexpected situations for some feel like pressure but we thrive in those situations. One our favourite things about being wedding photographers is that we get to use all of the skills we spent many years learning at pretty much every wedding, no other type of photography work allows this. You aren’t just a wedding photographer, you need to have mastered all of these skills:
Photo journalist - This is probably the most important skill needed to be a wedding photographer at a good level. Our job is to document all of the important moments, but also to do that creatively and for us that also means capturing all of the things that surround those important moments as well.
Portrait photographer - While most of what we do at a wedding we be described as documentary style, portraits of our couples are important. Beautiful portraits can evoke memories like nothing else. Portraits of our brides and grooms with their family and friends are equally as important. When else do you have so many people that love you altogether in the one place at the same time? Being a skilled portrait photographer isn’t just about technical expertise, it’s also important to be able to be gel with people from many different backgrounds.
Landscape photographer - Brides and Grooms put a huge amount of thought and time into choosing where they are going to have their wedding. For us, it’s important to be able to showcase that in their wedding photographs.
Product photographer - Details are an important part of every wedding day, be that the brides dress or the wedding rings. You could even argue that it’s even more important to document things that aren’t able to be kept. Things like the flowers and the wedding cake, once they are used, they are gone forever.
All of these elements require different skills and different technical expertise and are a perfect fit for us, due to the photography experience we had before shooting weddings.
The Craic and Atmosphere at Weddings
As wedding photographers, one of the most rewarding aspects of our work isn’t just capturing the photos, but also the incredible people we have the privilege to meet at every wedding. From the infectious laughter to the quiet, heartfelt tears, the bustling chaos of the morning preparations, and the pure, uncontainable joy on the dance floor, each moment adds to the unique story we are honoured to tell.
Weddings are often a roller coaster of emotions, filled with moments of joy, excitement, and heartfelt connection. We have the unique privilege of witnessing all these feelings unfold and being a small part of such a special day. It’s a huge amount of fun to capture these genuine moments as they happen and to meet all the different types of people we see at weddings. It truly warms the heart to witness the deep love and genuine joy that our couples share with each other, as well as the affection they have for their family and friends.
Preserving Your Emotions and Details
Keeping the Feeling of the Day Alive
As time moves on, memories fade, but the photographs will always remain. When you look at your wedding images years down the line, you’ll want to remember how the day felt, the warmth of sunlight, the buzz of laughter, the quiet after the ceremony. We like to focus on preserving those emotional snapshots.
We like to capture all the details like the dress, the handshake between family members, the decorations you chose. Each photograph is a doorway back to that exact moment. It’s not just about being there for the big entrances, it’s about catching the little moments that make your day unique. That’s the value of wedding photography, it keeps the feeling alive.
For us thats a huge responsibility but also a huge privilege. Later on down the line when your grandchildren or even your great grandchildren are looking through the photos from your wedding, it is our work they will be looking at. While we won’t be remembered, our work will live on, long after we do. We love that in that way, we become part of our couples legacy.
From Laughter to Tears — All of It
Weddings are packed with a spectrum of emotion. We don’t only photograph the laughing, dancing parts, we love to capture the quieter, softer moments too. The hidden tears of joy, the away-from-the-crowd moment, the pause when you both take it all in.
These are often the photographs that for us often that matter most and make the beauty of those moments is what makes wedding photography so rewarding for us. We believe every emotion deserves to be photographed, because your wedding day is more than one story, it’s many.
Bringing Your Day to Life Through
Art and Expertise
Combining Documentary Style with Creativity
Our photography draws from documentary practices, genuine, moment-driven. We mix that with creative aspects, thoughtful composition, attention to light and artistic framing. We consider the backdrop and time of day, and aim to craft images that are not only truthful but beautiful.
Whether it’s a grand ballroom style wedding or an intimate Causeway Coast Elopement, we tailor our approach to suit the setting and the personalities of our brides and grooms. We want your completed gallery to reflect both your real story and a high quality of craft.

That familiarity helps us deliver a smoother experience and stronger results. When you work with us, you’re choosing photographers who know the local area and respect the logistics of your day. We love working at all of the amazing places, couples choose as their wedding venue. If it was not for wedding photography we would have missed out on seeing and experiencing so many of the beautiful places that our job has brought us too.
