Things you need to think about before bringing your dog to your Northern Ireland wedding

Check what your venues policy is to having your dog your wedding.

Some venues will allow pets, some will allow you to bring them along for part of the day and some don’t allow pets at all. So before making any plans to bring your dog along have a chat with the wedding co-ordinator at the venue and ask for written clarification around their pet policy before confirming your booking with them. We have often found that venues that cater for outdoor weddings in Northern Ireland are the most doggy friendly.

Allocate a guest to look after your dog or hire a professional wedding dog-sitter

No couple is going to have the time on their wedding day to look after their dog in the way they normally would, so it’s important to have someone on the day who can take on that responsibility for you. If you don’t want to tie up one of your guests doing this for you there are lots of pet sitting businesses in Northern Ireland who can offer this service, either for some or all of the day.

Don’t forget walkies

How often do you walk your dog? For most people its twice a day. Make sure you have a chat with whoever is looking after your wee pup, to ensure that your dog is still kept in it’s normal walking routine. Try and steal away for a quick walk with them yourself at some point during the day.

It is especially important to check with your photographer and videographer as they will be with you for most of the day. While we love dogs, not everyone does. For example we had a wedding a few years ago and the couple brought along their dog for the day, but the videographer was absolutely petrified and the couples dog being their caused her lots of distress.

Choosing the best pet-friendly wedding venue in Northern Ireland can be a matter of personal preference, as there are several beautiful venues to choose from. For us though the answer is fairly straight forward. In our opinion Larchfield Estate in Lisburn is the best pet friendly wedding venue in Northern Ireland.

We have photographed a few weddings at Larchfield Estate were the couple has brought along their dog for the day. Being a large country estate, there is lots of room for a well behaved dog to enjoy. The venue always ensures fresh water is available and the staff all seem to love dogs being around as well. We have worked at pretty much every wedding venue in Northern Ireland and we haven’t seen any venue do a pet friendly wedding better than Larchfield Estate.
