Why we know this venue so well
A private estate with real character
Larchfield Estate is a family run private estate in Lisburn, set across 425 acres of Northern Ireland countryside. It has a history that goes back to the 1600s, and that shows in every corner of it.
Only one wedding takes place here each day, so the whole estate is yours. You can choose between the Walled Garden, the Georgian Barn and the light filled Orangery for your ceremony, and stay on site in the heritage cottages, which sleep 41. It is also carbon negative and pet friendly, which couples tell us they love.

Every venue has its quirks. Here is our view after photographing weddings at Larchfield many times.
What we love about Larchfield
- You get exclusive use of the entire estate on your wedding day. No other guests anywhere on site.
- The Georgian Barn is a stunning space with high ceilings and plenty of natural light for ceremonies and meals.
- The Walled Garden is licensed for outdoor ceremonies, and the Orangery makes a beautiful backup space.
- There is a private lake reserved only for wedding photography. You will not see strangers in your photos.
- Up to 41 guests can stay on site in cottages and lodges, which makes the whole day feel like a big family gathering.
- The owners are a local family who are there every day. They really care about getting every detail right for you.
- Your dog can come to the wedding and even stay overnight, which is hard to find at venues of this size.
- You have 425 acres of grounds to explore, so you are never short of quiet, beautiful spots for portraits.
Worth knowing before you book
- A Walled Garden ceremony is lovely but weather dependent. Indoor ceremonies can be held in the Orangery and the Barn.
- Popular dates book up well over a year in advance, so you will need to plan ahead, especially for summer Saturdays.
Rainy day plan
What if it rains?
This is Northern Ireland, so it's the question almost every Larchfield couple asks us. The good news is that Larchfield copes with a wet day better than most venues, and some of our favourite photos from the estate were taken with rain on the glass.
We keep an eye on the forecast in the days before your wedding and have a plan ready, so you don't have to give it a second thought on the day.
The glasshouse
Tucked beside the walled garden, it's sheltered and full of texture for relaxed portraits.
Quick dashes outside
If the rain eases for ten minutes, we'll grab you for a few moody shots in the garden or courtyard while the light is soft.
No need to pack umbrellas. We always bring our own clear umbrellas, and Larchfield keeps umbrellas on hand for you and your guests too.
Rain or shine, we'll make the most of whatever the day brings.

Larchfield sits in quiet countryside just outside Lisburn, yet it's easy to reach from Belfast, both Belfast airports and Dublin. That makes it a lovely choice if you or your guests are travelling from further afield or from abroad.

Wedding photography at Larchfield Estate
Larchfield is packed with wonderful places for photos. From the walled garden and Orangery to the private lake and woodland paths, every corner gives you something different. The best part is that all of it is yours exclusively for the day.
We usually head to the private lake straight after your ceremony, then work our way through the walled garden, the courtyard and the rest of the grounds as the light softens. Here are some of the weddings we have photographed here. Click any photo to see the full day.
Our favourite spot
Saved for the evening light
The glasshouse beside the walled garden is the spot we save for later in the day. When the sun dips low, the light floods through the glass and wraps everything in soft warm gold. It is beautiful at any time, but evening is when it truly shines.
It is also the perfect backup if the weather turns. The glass keeps you dry while still feeling completely open and bright. We have captured some of our most loved portraits here, and it is quiet enough that you really do have the place to yourselves for a few peaceful minutes.
Another option
Fancy a different backdrop? The wider estate
If you would like a change of scene from the glasshouse, there are three other lovely spots right here on the estate. The private lake is calm, open and peaceful, perfect for relaxed portraits as the evening light softens. The walled garden has tall hedges and soft edges that glow as the light fades. The woodland paths offer dappled light and deep shade that feels quiet and intimate.
All of these are within easy walking distance of the main buildings. Because Larchfield is exclusive use, you will not find strangers in your background or have to wait your turn. We can move between them as the light changes, so you get a lovely mix of looks across your gallery.
The lake area is reserved exclusively for the bride and groom, so it is always private and peaceful.
Will your guests love it?
Honestly, we think they will. Larchfield is the kind of place where guests wander, explore and settle in, and it's those little moments between the big parts of the day that make some of our favourite photos.
Lawn games
While you're off for your portraits, your guests can relax with a drink and a game of Jenga or two. There's always a bit of friendly competition.
Room for the little ones
Between the games and all that open space to explore, children are kept happy and busy, which means their parents get to enjoy the day too.
Fire pits in the courtyard
As the evening draws in, the fire pits in the cobbled courtyard become the place to gather, chat and warm up between dances.
Alpacas and donkeys
Yes, really. The estate's alpacas and donkeys are always a hit with guests of every age, and they make for some brilliant photos.
We love capturing all of this as it happens. Your guests laughing over the games, the kids exploring and everyone gathered round the fire pits are the photos you'll treasure just as much as the portraits.

Can we have our ceremony and reception at Larchfield Estate?
Yes. Larchfield is exclusively yours for the day. You can have your ceremony in the walled garden, Orangery or Georgian Barn, then your reception in the barn, all without anyone needing to travel anywhere.
Can we get married outdoors at Larchfield?
Yes. The walled garden is the most popular outdoor spot, with the Orangery or glasshouse ready as a backup if the weather turns. It is beautiful, sheltered, and feels completely private.
What happens if it rains on our Larchfield wedding day?
Larchfield copes really well with a wet day. We move your portraits into the glasshouse beside the walled garden and grab quick shots outside whenever the rain eases. We always bring our own clear umbrellas, and Larchfield keeps umbrellas on hand for you and your guests too.
Can we get ready at the estate on the morning of the wedding?
Yes. There are accommodation cottages on site so you can stay the night before and get ready right there. It makes the morning wonderfully relaxed, and we can start your photos before anyone else arrives.
Are the ceremony spaces good for photos?
They are lovely. The Orangery and glasshouse fill with soft natural light, the walled garden is full of flowers and greenery, and the Georgian Barn has beautiful stone and warm wood. Every space gives you something different.
Are the grounds good enough for wedding photos?
They are wonderful. With 425 acres of parkland, woodland and a private lake, you will never run out of spots. Because the estate is exclusive use, you will not see other people in your photos, and we know the best light at every time of day here.
Do we need to go elsewhere for photos?
You do not. Everything you could want is within walking distance: the lake, the woodland, the walled garden, the glasshouse and the barn. You could spend the whole day exploring and still not see everything.
When is the best light for photos at Larchfield?
Straight after the ceremony we go to the private lake with you. We also work around the walled garden and courtyard, and later in the day we head to the glasshouse as the light softens. Every spot has its perfect moment.
How far is Larchfield Estate from Belfast and the airports?
Larchfield is about 10 minutes from Lisburn, 20 minutes from Belfast city centre, 30 to 40 minutes from both Belfast airports and around 1 hour 30 minutes from Dublin Airport. That makes it easy for guests travelling from further afield or from abroad.
Is Larchfield Estate good for guests and children?
Yes. There are lawn games like Jenga, plenty of open space for children to explore, fire pits in the cobbled courtyard in the evening, and the estate's alpacas and donkeys are always a hit with guests of every age.
