A hotel venue with everything under one roof
Clandeboye Lodge is a hotel and wedding venue in Bangor, Co. Down. It is a popular choice for couples who want their ceremony, meal, evening party and bedrooms all in one place, and it is only a few minutes from Bangor town centre.
There are three wedding suites to choose from. The Viceroy suits smaller days, with its roof terrace and the Diplomat Lounge, and the Clandeboye suite is the largest room, for big celebrations of up to 300 guests. The advantages and disadvantages of Clandeboye Lodge
Every venue has good points and things to plan around. This is what we have noticed across the weddings we have photographed here.
Advantages
- Onsite accommodation, so you and your guests can stay where the day happens.
- Ceremonies take place in the Blackwood suite, with arched timber beams and gothic style windows.
- The ceremony and reception areas are separate, which keeps the day feeling organised.
- The wedding rooms sit in a separate building with their own parking.
- Only one wedding takes place each day, so the venue and staff are all yours.
- The staff are experienced and friendly.
Disadvantages
- The ceremony room is red brick and the windows only light the front, so photos can have a warm colour cast.
- On one visit around Christmas the hotel was hosting a very large event, which made it busy.
- The grounds are small, so for couple portraits we sometimes suggest going elsewhere.

Clandeboye Lodge wedding photography
The ceremony room is a lovely space, but with red brick walls and windows only at the front, the light can turn warm. We shape our colours to keep skin tones natural, and we make the most of the terrace and the lawns around the building for relaxed portraits.
The grounds are on the small side, so if portraits matter to you, the two places below are worth thinking about for a short trip. Both are close by.

Crawfordsburn Country Park
Crawfordsburn Country Park has beautiful woodland and a glen, and it is only a few minutes from the hotel. It is popular with couples, but there is a catch: you need written permission from the forest service and public liability insurance to take wedding photos there.
It also means a fair walk from the car park, so it suits couples who are happy to leave time for it, and comfortable shoes.

Bangor Castle Walled Garden
This is our favourite choice near Clandeboye Lodge. The Walled Garden at Bangor Castle has a wildflower meadow, and it looks good in every season, which makes it easy to plan around whatever the weather does.

Where is the ceremony at Clandeboye Lodge?
Ceremonies take place in the Blackwood suite, which has arched timber beams and gothic style windows, so your ceremony and your reception happen in separate spaces. The venue charges £450 for an indoor or outdoor ceremony from Sunday to Thursday and £900 on Fridays and Saturdays.
How many guests can Clandeboye Lodge hold?
The Blackwood suite holds 50 to 60 guests, the Viceroy suite 75 to 102 and the Clandeboye suite 110 to 300. Minimum numbers depend on the day and package you choose.
Is there more than one wedding a day?
No. The venue only hosts one wedding a day, so you are the only couple there and the staff can focus on you.
