Clandeboye Lodge is a 4 star hotel and wedding venue in in Bangor, Co. Down. It is a stunning wedding venue that offers more than just a place to say "I do." Its reputation as a top-tier wedding venue has been steadily growing, attracting couples from both near and far. Clandeboye Lodge is one of the most popular wedding venues in County Down and deservedly so.
One of the standout features of Clandeboye Lodge for a wedding is its versatility. Whether you dream of an intimate gathering or a grand affair, this venue offers two options depending on how many guests you are having. The Viceroy suite can be used for up to 100 guests and includes access to both a private roof top terrace and the diplomat lounge. The larger and more luxurious Clandeboye suite can cater for up to 300 guests.
What are the advantages of the Clandeboye Lodge for a wedding?
Being a hotel wedding venue, there is plenty of onsite accommodation available. Many brides and grooms choose to stay at the Clandboye Lodge the night before their wedding so that they can get ready from there.
At this wedding venue all ceremonies take place inside the Blackwood suite, which has arched timber beams and gothic style windows. The great thing about there being a separate area for the ceremony and reception is that there is a lot less time wasted waiting for venue staff to move things around, which is a big bonus of getting married here.
All weddings take place in a building that is not connected to the main hotel which has it’s own car parking facilities. This can be a big bonus if you don’t want your wedding guests mixing with hotel residents.
Prices for a wedding here are at the time of writing start from £105 per head, please note that the packages they offer have set amounts for a minimum amount of guests and that the use of the Blackwood suite for the ceremony is an additional cost. They also offer the option to tailor packages to suit your individual requirements.

In our experience photographing weddings here the staff are generally experienced hosting weddings and friendly.
What are the disadvantages of the Clandeboye Lodge for a wedding?
The ceremony room has red brick walls which may not be the aesthetic to suit all couples. The windows in the ceremony room only provide good light for the front of the room. While there is plenty of artificial light in the room, that combined with the red brick walls can cause a warm colour cast in photos and video.
While the venue has a one wedding a day policy on a previous visit when we were there, the venue was also catering for another very large event. To be fair this was around Christmas time and may not be usual circumstances, we have only seen this once when visiting at other times of the year.
While there is a small amount of grounds surrounding the venue these are not very extensive, although they have recently improved this by adding some new features. At this venue we would normally recommend that while it is suitable for photos with your family and bridal party, it is better to go elsewhere for portraits of the bride and groom.
Wedding photography at the Clandeboye Lodge Hotel
There are a couple of areas around the venue that can be used in a pinch for photographs although as we have already mentioned the best option for bride and groom portraits would be to use another location. The available space however does work well for photos with your family and friends.
Alternative locations for wedding photography for Clandeboye Lodge weddings
While the venue doesn’t have much to offer in terms of shooting bride and groom portraits there are some beautiful areas near by that work very well.
Crawfordsburn Country Park: Photo location for Clandeboye Lodge Hotel weddings
There are quite a few wedding venues in the Bangor area and Crawfordsburn has been a popular choice of location for couples getting married at any of them for a long time. . With its beautiful forest landscapes, and a beach near by it’s a very good choice of location for wedding photography especially if you are getting married at the Clandeboye Lodge as it only a few minutes away by car.
The only downsides with using this area is that it’s quite a long walk to get to all the best vantage points here, You also require written permission from the forest service if you want to have your wedding photographs taken here. They will also require your wedding photographer to provide them with a copy of their public liability insurance, From what our couples have told us the application procedure is quite time consuming.

For us the walled gardens at Bangor Castle is the best choice of location for wedding photography if you are getting married at the Clandeboye Lodge. One of the undeniable charms of Bangor Castle Walled Garden lies in its versatility as a photography location. While spring and summer bring the garden to life with a riot of colours, Bangor Castle Walled Garden is a year-round treasure. Winter, with a dusting of frost or even a light blanket of snow, transforms the garden into a serene and enchanting wonderland, offering a unique and romantic backdrop for winter weddings. The wildflower meadow is always beautiful.
